Herman Van Springel (1943-2022) got the nickname Monsieur Bordeaux-Paris due to his seven victories in the monster race Bordeaux-Paris (1970, 1974, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1980 and 1981). Besides Bordeaux-Paris, he also won almost all major one-day races during his career, but he is mostly known as the Belgian Poulidor because of his many silver and bronze medals in e.g. the Tour de France, the Tour of Spain, the Tour of Italy and Paris-Roubaix.
